Happy New Year Broncos! We hope this newsletter finds you well. SCU has 21 active and competitive Club Sport teams that take on universities at the local, regional, and national levels. Each month during the academic year, we ask teams to share updates on what they have been up to. Not every Club Sport will report each month.
OPEN CLUB SPORTS
SAILING
After a phenomenal fall quarter, SCU Sailing is on course for a strong winter season on the Bay. This quarter, the team will compete in regattas hosted by Oakland Yacht Club, Cal Poly, and St. Francis Yacht Club. A key priority in the coming weeks is preparing our first-year sailors to race at the Cal Poly regatta in February. We’re so excited to build on last quarter’s momentum and continue growing as a team both on and off the water. Go Broncos!

SHOTOKAN KARATE

Hey Broncos! We hope you had a fantastic Winter break and had lots of holiday cheer with friends and family. Our SCU Karate team is going right back into the action, with quite a lot happening this quarter! We have our upcoming tournament in Yuba City on Sunday, February 1, and a joint practice with USF and UC Davis just a week or two after. Even further on is another competition in Walnut Creek, planned for mid-March. We are currently honing our kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) in preparation for these competitions. Even with our upcoming busy schedule, we are always looking for new members of any skill level! Feel free to reach out to jberry@scu.edu if you are interested in joining and learning karate.

SWIM TEAM
Hi Broncos! Club swim is back and ready for a great Winter Quarter! We have our second intrasquad meet of the year coming up, followed by a trip down to UCLA for the biggest swim meet of the quarter. With multiple swimmers closing in on nationals qualifying times, we are working hard at practice and looking forward to racing over the next few weeks. We also have numerous events planned throughout the quarter to spend time together outside of the pool as well. We are so happy to be back in the pool, and can’t wait for an exciting few weeks to come!
